Mike Reflects

This section is where I reflect on the interview & tell you my favorite parts, as well as relevant personal stories & memories.

I was torn on how I wanted to handle this reflection.

On one hand, this was the first time I ever coordinated an interview with a panel-only guest (or, rather, panel-only guests) at FAN EXPO, and that’s a story unto itself.

On the other hand, I’d be doing this show a disservice if I didn’t take this opportunity to talk about how it is, without a doubt, the most fun I’ve ever had in a theatre—and that’s really saying something, because I tend to have great fun in theatres.

So, ultimately, I decided I’d try to interweave the two together.

I hadn’t yet seen the show when I conducted these interviews. All I’d known of the show was what I had seen/read online or what they’d talked about in the panel immediately preceding these interviews.

Funnily enough, the interviews were actually supposed to be before the panel, but, in doing interviews like this, one needs to be ready to pivot and adapt, as things can easily change on the fly.

I had intended to start with David, to get his take on how the show was conceived and what it went on to become, before moving on from there.

But, again, one needs to adapt and pivot. Maddie went first, because she was in that evening’s show and had to leave as quickly as possible to get back to the theatre.

And having gotten to see her perform, I was all the more impressed that she went from the panel to the interview to that in such a short span.

While I had an idea of what the show was, the sheer scale of what it means to perform in this show was something I had to see to fully understand.

I honestly wish I could better describe what this show is, but, instead, all I can do is give my strongest recommendation that you check it out to see it for yourself, because no combination of words (or even photos or videos) can do justice to what it is—or, more importantly, the sheer joy brought by watching it.
