Mike Reflects
When I was a kid, the one TV show taping I absolutely wanted to attend if I ever got the chance was According to Jim.
It was, and still is, a favorite of mine, and I've been known to talk about it pretty much every chance I get.
For those who know me, I think it goes without saying that it's the first thing I think of when I think of Larry Joe Campbell.
Around the time I was prepping for the interview, I was talking to a friend of mine about Larry, and she seemed, somehow, unfamiliar with his work, as she'd apparently somehow managed to miss all of his major movies and TV shows. (Don't worry, I've since introduced her to According to Jim.)
But, as the conversation lulled, the topic changed—somehow—to either older commercials or hotdogs.
I don't recall which, but, in either case, she wanted me to see a YouTube video of a Ballpark Hotdog commercial she remembered from ~20 years ago.
As I was watching that commercial, I couldn't help but just stare pointedly at her.
Not because of the commercial itself (though it did use the word "girthy" quite a bit more than one might expect), but because the man in the commercial was the one she just finished telling me she didn't recall ever seeing in anything: Larry Joe Campbell.
All that is to say that Larry's been in a lot of things. Even if you think you've never seen him in something, you probably have.
As there always is, there was only so much time for the interview and only so much we could discuss in that time. Naturally, a lot of it went toward talking about According to Jim, but if we ever sit down together again, we can hopefully discuss some of those other projects in just as much detail, like Animal Control, Space Force, and, of course, that hotdog commercial.
