Mike Reflects

This section is where I reflect on the interview & tell you my favorite parts, as well as relevant personal stories & memories.

I've been lucky to have the opportunity to talk to a lot of performers whose work I admire. Alex Borstein is near the top of that list.

While I'm certainly a huge fan of her work on Family Guy (in fact, I have it on in the background as I write this), I didn't start watching until a few guys in high school convinced me that I'd love it if I gave it a shot (and they weren't wrong).

In fact, I actually remember the first time I saw it. We were on a family vacation in TN with a rental cabin, where I was chilling in my room. The Internet had gone out, and the PTV episode of Family Guy—which one of my friends had specifically recommended—was on, so I figured I'd check it out.

I've been watching ever since.

But for the decade or so before that, I knew her only as Miss Ungermeyer from The Lizzie McGuire Movie.

Lizzie McGuire was my favorite TV show growing up. When the movie came out, I dragged my parents to see it the day it opened. Unfortunately, we got to the movie theater to find that it was sold out, but we were able to get tickets for a later showing.

I've seen that movie probably at least 20 times by now. Even as I grew out of the target demographic for Lizzie, the nostalgia and the overall quality of the show and movie made it a comfort thing for me. To this day, if it's on, I'll probably watch it.

But, while it was absolutely incredible to discuss those roles with Alex, the main point of the interview was to discuss her upcoming performance at the Den Theatre.

There's very little information online about Alex Borstein is Thirsty—and, unfortunately, I'll be recovering from a medical procedure and unable to attend her performance in Chicago—but I was a big fan of her critically-acclaimed Corsets & Clown Suits.

If Alex Borstein is Thirsty is even half that good, you probably won't want to miss it.
